'BJP will fight till Telangana is formed'

Hyderabad, Jan 23: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Sushma Swaraj Saturday said the party would continue to fight till a separate Telangana state is created and targetted both the ruling Congress and Telugu Desam Party in Andhra Pradesh for their "double standards" on the issue.

Addressing a public meeting organised by the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), the Leader of opposition in Lok Sabha asserted that Telangana state would become a reality.

Claiming that the BJP had taken a clear stand on Telangana, she alleged that the Congress and main oppoisition TDP were adopting double standards on the issue. "The Telangana leaders of Congress and TDP are raising slogans of Jai Telangana while their counterparts in Andhra region are demanding a unified Andhra," she said.

Stating that students had taken the Telangana movement in their hands, she remarked that "when students take a movement in their hands even god can't stop it'. She however advised students not to resort to violence.

Swaraj appealed to students and youth not to commit suicide for Telangana. "You should fight and live for Telangana to see its formation, development and prosperity," she said.

"How many more people will have to die for Telangana state to be formed," she asked and alleged that the Congress had repeatedly betrayed the people of the region.

Recalling that Telangana was merged with Andhra in 1956 despite reservations by the first states reorganisation commission, she pointed out that then prime minister Jawaharlal Nehru had stated that the merger was only a trial and people of Telangana can demand Telangana state whenever they want.

Swaraj urged Congress president Sonia Gandhi to fulfill the promise made by Nehru by carving out Telangana state.

The ABVP meeting passed a resolution demanding the central government move a bill in the parliament for formation of Telangana state. It also asked all MPs and state legislators from the region to submit their resignations to mount pressure on the centre.

Makara Sankranti - An end to Telangana antagonists

Tamaso Ma Jyotir Gamaya', may you go higher & higher, to more & more Light and never to Darkness. This is Makar Sankranti’s message to the people of Telangana. As Surya begins its ascendancy today, so shall Telangana begin its.

Just as Lord Vishnu ended the terrors of the Asuras on this day, by finishing them off and burying their heads under the Mandara Parvata, so do we the people of Telangana need to finish the evil and exploitative forces that hold us in bondage. We have raised our voice and it has hardly made a dent in the center’s policy. We are still hearing words like “normalcy to return”, “consultative approach” from the Central leadership. The time for discussions, platitudes and negotiations is over, like Lord Vishnu’s Sudarshan Chakra, we have to sever the power fount of the exploitative anti Telangana forces.

"The resistance to Telangana is from two powerful forces-
The land mafia in Hyderabad and The Government contractors in AP.
Dry the power of these two factions and the life blood of the anti Telangana forces will dry down."

• 1)First, how do we tackle the land mafia with their political, and goonda power.? We have neither the money nor the gun toting armies like them, but we have is as powerful as the Sudarshan chakra, the might of our numbers and our determination and like Vishnu we need to wield it just once. Let us take one strong and decisive move, select the most visible and voluble Telangana antagonist, a highly visible example of trickery and cheating who has illegally occupied acres of prime land in Hyderabad, and lay siege to its offices and business interests and force the suspension of work. This will hit the exploiters jugular with no effect on the people and future of Telangana. We all know this business house will not have employed any person from Telangana hence if its offices are closed down the livelihood of our people is not jeopardized nor will it impact our future as the business will not be working on the regions development. Its mantra would be make money in Hyderabad and develop Vijayawada or Vizag. This will give out the message, loud and clear to the others that it is time for them to pack their bags and go.
• 
  
• 2 ) Coming to the Government contractors, how do we tackle them?. This is where our brothers and sisters in Government and Administration need to pitch in. You will have to see to it, that no contractor except if it is from Telangana is awarded any project. And if it has completed or is working on any project ensure the money due to them is delayed indefinitely. I am sure we can make this happen by using the Government machinery to delay approvals and payments. Once they realize that Hyderabad and Telangana is no longer the goose that lays the golden egg, their antipathy and resistance to our state will die a natural death.

This will require firm and decisive action on our part, and if we hesitate any longer the time will be lost and we will have to wait for another 50 years for a Makar Sankranti like todays. Let us remember we have lost all and there is nothing more to lose. Now, there is just one way to go, UP. Telangana will be born not with a whimper but a roar.

JAC to decide on the resignations Today

Mass resignations in AP likely to choke govt

The present dimensions of Andhra Pradesh politics is likely to change with over 1000 people's representatives deciding to submit their mass resignations on Tuesday after a crucial meeting of the Telangana Joint Action Committee in Hyderabad at 2 pm.

A member of the Joint Action Committee told that the agenda of the meeting for Tuesday has been fixed.

"We feel that the Union government is trying to ensure that the movement goes into the ice box and there is no way that we will let that happen. In a bid to step up pressure, all representatives belonging to the Telangana region will submit their resignations tomorrow itself," the member said.

We are unhappy with the assurances of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and there is no way in which we want to wait any longer. We have built this movement with such difficulty and at the last moment, we don't want the Union government sending it to the cold storage. Increasingly we get the feeling that they are buying time to kill the movement," he added.

Chairperson of the Telangana JAC Prof Kodand Ram says, Abhi hum Dilli nahin jayenge, delhi ko yahan aana hoga. (Now we won't go to New Delhi , New Delhi will have to come here)

The repercussions of such a mass resignation movement will be disastrous for Andhra Pradesh. There are over a 1000 representatives belonging to the Telangana movement and each one appears to be united in its stand. The JAC will not have any trouble in convincing all these members to tender their resignations.

The Telangana region in all has 119 Members of Legislative Assembly, of which 54 belong to the Congress. If these leaders resign, the strength of the party on the floor of the house will drop, which means the government will roll.

Apart from this, there are 17 Lok Sabha members and 10 Rajya Sabha members from the Telangana region. In the mandal level, there are around 480 representatives from this region apart from 10 chairmen of the Zilla Parishads.

In the category of Members of Legislative Council, there are 12 of them from the local bodies, 3 graduates and 3 teacher candidate MLCs.

Apart from this, the Andhra government has something more to worry about in case mass resignations are undertaken. The budget session is slated for February and if these representatives resign, then it will be next to impossible to go ahead with the budget session.

The JAC meeting is not expected to settle for anything less. They say, from the mandal to the Parliament level, there will be resignations galore. A bill has to be tabled in Parliament, and the Congress alone can get it passed, since it has a majority.

Jai Telangana : Americans unfazed by the Travel Alert !

Hyderabad, Jan. 6: The US government advisory against travel to Hyderabad appears to have had little impact on a group of American students from Kansas State University.

Nineteen students of the university arrived in Hyderabad on Monday and made a dash to the epicentre of the Telangana agitation, the Osmania University campus. There they spent a night, interacted with students on the arts lawns yesterday, and expressed solidarity. They left last evening.

“I feel safer at the university as it has more security,” one of the American students said.

The group is on a four-day tour of Andhra Pradesh as part of an international students’ exchange programme, and has been visiting select state universities. They are being led by faculty member Barry Michie.

“They went around Hyderabad and also the (Osmania) campus and met students,” said T. Vijay Kumar, joint director of Osmania’s centre for international programmes.

The campus lawns, however, were rather quiet and thinly populated since the students have taken a few days off with talks now being held in Delhi. The Osmania students thanked the visitors for their interest in their agitation.

“We explained how the Telangana region had remained backward for the past five decades because of political indifference, and expressed our resolve to grow independently and separately,” said Ajay, a member of the Joint Action Committee.

'Jai Telangana' slogans in answer sheets!

It appears ‘Aal izz not well’ insofar as the academic future of the high school students of Nizamabad district is concerned. As if boycotting the exams wasn’t enough, some of the students who took the test went to the extent of writing “Jai Telangana” slogans in their answer scripts and left the exam halls in a huff.

Students of government and private high schools boycotted their half-yearly examinations in support of the ongoing movement for separate Telangana in the district on Monday. But what’s shocking was that a majority of the students who wrote the exam repeated ‘Jai Telangana’ slogans in the answer papers, flung them in the examination centres and left shouting slogans in support of separate Telangana even as teachers looked on helplessly.

A student of Modern Public School in Nizamabad summed up their anger. “We did it for the cause of separate Telangana which has been hanging fire for over fifty years. The government has dragged the issue far too long,” he said not wanting to be named.

In fact, district education officer P Bucchanna in a late night order told the school managements to conduct the half-yearly exams from Tuesday for the students of first to 10th classes. The exams were initially slated between Jan 2 and 8 but were postponed to Jan 18 to 23 because of the continued unrest.

Not only students, even teachers at several schools boycotted the exams. Ironically, the government suspended the DEO on Tuesday evening for “failing” to conduct the exams properly.

Gossip: Formation of a separate state of Telangana may be just two years away!

NEW DELHI: The Centre may be loathe to admit it at this juncture, but the formation of a separate state of Telangana may be just two years away. The home ministry, which is working on the formation of a committee to thrash out a roadmap, is expected to hold at least two rounds of consultations with the stakeholders.

Although the two sides of Andhra Pradesh are engaged in mobilisation and counter-mobilisation, the Centre is aware that it cannot wriggle out of the promise. The Congress leadership, which debated the issue before home minister P Chidambaram made the statement on December 9, had endorsed the idea of splitting the state. But protests that ensued the announcement forced the government to recalibrate its stand.

There is expectation that tempers will cool down in the coming days. It would provide the government the required elbow room for kicking off the ground work for bifurcating the state.

But there is acknowledgement that status of Hyderabad would prove to be knotty. The Telangana proponents have already said the city is non-negotiable. According to them, Hyderabad is the heart of Telangana, both historically and geographically.

This could prompt the government to moot the idea of according a UT status to Hyderabad on the lines of Chandigarh. But unlike Chandigarh that shares borders with both Haryana and Punjab, Hyderabad lies deep within the proposed Telangana area.

Leaders from Andhra and Rayalseema, who made huge investments in Hyderabad, are certain to resist the idea of ceding Hyderabad to Telangana. Incidentally, much of the protests by Congress leaders over Hyderabad had its genesis in the “assets” issue.

Meanwhile, TRS chief K Chandrasekhar Rao met Mr Chidambaram this afternoon to discuss the statehood issue. “It was a satisfactory meeting,” Mr Rao told reporters after deliberations lasting 30 minutes. Mr Rao also said he would be meeting the prime minister in a day or two.

HighCourt permits Students to take out rally, on 3rd Jan

The Andhra Pradesh government has given nod for Osmania University students to go ahead with the Sunday's "Vidhyarthi Garjana" rally albeit with conditions.

Justice Nagarjuna Reddy, acting on the Joint Action Committee of Osmania University Students' petition, directed the Hyderabad city police commissioner to grant permission for the rally on the university campus. But he said only students should attend the rally, and it should be held between 4 pm and 6 pm. The court also specifically ordered that political leaders should stay away from it and no outsiders should speak on the occasion.

The JAC, which called the rally to press the demand for Telangana formation, believes that up to five lakh students will participate in the meeting. But with the court imposing restrictions, only four to five thousand students will be able to attend the meet, some students say.

The high court order came just when tension reached the boiling point on the campus as hundreds of policemen and personnel of Rapid Action Force and CRPF were deployed in and around the campus to stop the people from gathering.

Additional director general of police, law and order Abdul Khayyum Khan made it clear that the permission for rally would not be granted as the gathering of a large number of people can create serious law-and-order problems.

Chief Minister K Rosaiah also expressed his helplessness, saying political interference would not be good in a sensitive matter which was being dealt with by police in a professional manner.
